The Siberian Husky is an ancient breed.
Developed by the nomadic Chukchi tribe of northeastern Asia some 3,000 years ago, he was
used to pull sleds and herd reindeer.
Only brought to Alaska in the early 1900s, he has since
become renowned for sled racing and search and rescue work. This is a strong dog, able to
haul loads over long distances and rough terrain.

The Siberian Husky is a member of the Spitz
family. He is a medium-sized working dog and stands 23 1/2 inches tall at the shoulder. He has
a thick double coat that is medium long and comes in all colors including white. He will
"blow coat" a couple of times per year and brushing several times per week is
necessary.
The Siberian Husky has a sweet nature and is a breed suitable
for anyone who does not mind a dog who is playful, challenging, and independent. The
owner of a Husky may need to exercise considerable patience when training. Boredom in this
breed, like many others, can lead to destructive behaviour. This is an active, energetic
worker who requires a lot of exercise to stay in shape.
This breed does have a roaming instinct and needs to be kept
in a fenced-in area. Because of his thick coat, the Husky does better in cooler climates
and can live happily outdoors. A friendly, gentle dog, the Siberian Husky is a dependable and
playful pet. A born sled dog, he will happily pull a young child in a wagon or sled.
